In the midst of editing Alchemy and writing book 3 to Psycons & Grace, I’ve started work on a serial fiction collaboration. My co-writer in this project, and the source of the collaboration idea itself, is my wrelative (writer + relative = wrelative). She’s still figuring out a pen name, so I’ll call her Ms. Wrelative until then.
Serial fiction, for those of you new to it, is the writing equivalent of an episodic television show. In our case, we expect to write 24-episode series (serieses?), the first few episodes of which are free to the world and the remainder available only to Patreon subscribers. Why do it this way? Because the arts are valuable and, if you like an author, you want to make sure they have the wherewithal to keep writing for you, right?
The beauty of this model for the reader is access to material as it’s being written. Instead of waiting months or years for a book to be written, edited, and published, you can read it in real time, in weekly installments. Ms. Wrelative and I plan to approach this as a two-step process. First, we’ll write the series and post the episodes online for our readers. Then, once all the posts are done and it’s been available for an undetermined amount of time, we’ll publish it as a novella on Amazon for purchase. Rinse and repeat.
Of course, there will be a Patreon plan for our subscribers to get that fully edited published work at no cost. We’re not monsters!
The story Ms. Wrelative and I are writing is NOTHING like my Psycons & Grace series. To start, it’s genre fiction in a popular niche, but not the usual fare. It’s less serious, much funnier, and significantly more profane than my other work, to start. But Ms. Wrelative and I make a good team, I think. We’re ten episodes into it and I’m having a blast every time I have the opportunity to write. Can’t wait to see where it goes next!
Stay tuned…
